Freezing Berries Tutorial

Did you miss out on freezing berries?  You're in luck! We still have some!!

Freezing Berries on cookie sheets

*this process works well with all types of berries, not just the blueberries pictured here.

I love freezing berries this way, blueberries especially because they keep their shape a little better and it's easy to take a handful (or two) out of a large bag for a quick snack.

Blueberry Pickles Recipe

Blueberry Pickles??? Yup, that's right... I haven't personally tried this one yet but it sounds absolutely delicious.  And I think our Ochlockonee or Liberty Blueberries would be a perfect fit. They have just the right amount of tang and sweetness.

Here is the recipe: submitted to us by Marge Welch.

Blueberry Pickles

Ingredients:
2 quarts Blueberries
2 cups sugar (white, brown, or mixed)
1 1/2 cup vinegar (red wine, apple cider, rice wine, or mixed)
3 Tbsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

Friday afternoon, a cool and drizzly day on the farm, Matt comes out of his office and says "Laura, lets go for a drive around the farm!"  He is an incredibly wonderful farmer, with a great amount of passion in his heart and whenever he's in the mood for a drive, I take him up on it.

Quality time with my pops is the best thing a girl can ask for.

Unger's Farm Store Opens for the Season

The Season is upon us! The berries are ripe! The bees are buzzing! The sun is...... shinning?  Not quite.   But that doesn't stop us out here at Unger Farms.  We are excited to announce that our Farm Store is opening June 1st with Albion Strawberries.  Unfortunately, our June-bearing Hood Strawberries are not quite ripe enough, but give them a week and we'll all be basking in the juicy sweetness that, if you're like me, has your mouth watering just thinking about them.
